Amador PSAT/NMSQT registration opens for juniors
November 6, 2020
Registration for 2020’s PSAT/NMSQT is now open. This year, the PSAT will be reserved exclusively for juniors. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the test has been moved from it’s traditional date in October to January 26, 2021.
Juniors who want to sign up can click on AVHS’ TotalRegistration page. Registration will only be available from November 2 to November 16. Testing fees have increased to $48 because of the extra cost of administering the test in a safely socially distanced environment.
However, the test remains liable to be cancelled if the health conditions are deemed dangerous or if there are staffing restrictions. The school will notify students and families by December 4 on the final decision of whether the test will be able to be administered or not. If AVHS is unable to administer the test, partial refunds will be made with the understanding that some registration and ordering costs are non-refundable.
While the PSAT is as an opportunity to qualify for the National Merit scholarship, it is important to note that the PSAT is not required for juniors to take.
“Colleges do not consider the PSAT as part of the admissions process and are using the College Board tests less or not at all in the admissions process, given the global pandemic,” said AV Vice Principal and PSAT Coordinator Terry Conde.
For more information and ways to prepare for the PSAT, you can access the College Board’s website or use a student prep guide.
