Recently, Candy King, a candy shop, has opened in Downtown Pleasanton. This shop is perfect for Halloween and will make quarantine a little sweeter! The owners are a charming couple Mrs. and Mr. Konopka.

With these unique circumstances Halloween has almost been canceled, but this doesn’t mean people shouldn’t stuff their faces with sweet treats. Many people in Pleasanton need something to cheer them up, and King Candy might do just that.

“We wanted something different downtown, other than restaurants and bars,” said John Konopka, owner of King Candy.

The store certainly stands out with its colorful vintage look. The inside is filled with many childhood favorites. Which are a perfect fit for Pleasanton because of our town’s rich history, dating back to the 1850s.

“We just wanted something for the kids,” said Mr. Konopka.

From teddy bears, candy dispensers, posters, and action figures, Candy King has been attracting children of all ages ever since it first opened in late September. You will often find children visiting the candy shop as part of their weekly, and sometimes daily, routine.

“I love buying candy, especially around Halloween, and I think King Candy is perfect for it, it is so much fun” said Ofelia Pacheco, a student at Mohr Elementary. 

The opening of King Candy just so happened to be perfectly aligned with Halloween, so many people are getting their candy in beforehand, just in case trick or treating won’t be an option. It’s even been decorated in a new Halloween style, with pumpkins ready to be seen throughout the season.

“It’s a very nice place, but you have to wear a mask before entering, I don’t mind though,” said Pacheco. 

Due to the pandemic, masks and hand sanitizer are required throughout visits. It is also recommended that for you to not touch anything that you are not going to buy, and wear gloves when scooping candy. With all of these requirements it’s assured that your trip will be safe and stress-free.

Overall, King Candy deserves it’s name for being the King of Candy. This place is perfect for Halloween and every candy lover will find a treat.
