On March 25, students from Amador Valley, Village, and Foothill High School took a field trip to Sonoma State along with counselors Hashimi and Torres. The student left at around 9 a.m. and toured the campus with two Sonoma State Students. The high school students got to tour the history of the college and learn what the college had to offer.
“Field trips are important because students get to go on campus, so they’re getting the chance to see college campuses before they apply. I think some people underestimate the importance of location, the climate, and weather before they even go there,” said College Counselor Zuhal Hashimi.
The college tours are meant for students to look at colleges and see what is right and what isn’t right for them. It’s a chance for them to see and learn about the colleges to make the best choice for them.
“I was wanting to see if they had more agricultural classes that they had available, and I wanted to know if you would be taking, and if it was okay if you attended college with that on the college tours,” said Lauren Soriano Fong (‘26).
The tours to different colleges help students see themselves on campus and in class and how their everyday life could look like. This could help them choose what college they want to go to based on the information they have.
These tours help me decide which college I want to go to because I can imagine myself being at this school easier, as well as interacting with college life there and meeting students. Seeing how popular the school is,” said Katharine Musil (‘26).
“Overall, I think it’s good for picking where you attend, and it’s good for figuring out if you will succeed at that school. I think it’s always very important to visit a college campus if you can, and if your parents aren’t able to take you or you aren’t able to visit, then that’s why we have these fieldtrips,” said Hashimi.
