On the week of 3/17 to 3/21, the Amador Valley Dons celebrated wish week to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that grants the wishes of children with critical illnesses, aiming to improve their quality of life and provide hope and strength.
“I thought that the concept of Wish Week was very thoughtful, and I am so glad that Amador hosted a Wish Week as it is a unique but thoughtful way to spread awareness,” said Karthik Maheswaran (‘26).
Different Themes for Spirit Week
Students expressed their creativity each day by dressing according to different themes. Monday kicked things off with Green Day, where students wore their best St. Patricks Day outfits to class. On Tuesday, Celebrity Day encouraged everyone to showcase their best takes on a favorite celebrity.
“My favorite day of the Spirit Week was Wednesday. I got the opportunity to dress as a tourist, and it reminded me of the warm weather that would come,” said Ramgopal Palampati (‘26).
Thursday featured Career Day, where Amador Dons could show their future goals and ambitions through their outfits. Last but not least, Friday was a blue deck-out to show support for the Make a Wish Foundation.
A Spirited Community
At Amador, spirit weeks are more than just a week to dress-up; they build support for communities and organizations, allowing students to spread awareness.
“I think this Spirit Week is an amazing opportunity to take what we know about the community and raise money for, in this case, a nonprofit or an organization with a message to deliver, and I really enjoyed the spirit days and seeing everyone participate in it,” said Jiya Channon (‘26).
Spirit Weeks also serve as a welcome distraction from academic pressures. Students enjoy the opportunity to match outfits with friends, participate in lighthearted activities, and share moments of joy on campus.
“…Spirit Weeks like these are interactive and I enjoyed the bonding aspect of it and how each student had the opportunity to give back to meaningful foundations like Make-a-Wish,” said Maheshwaran.
