On March 3, the Amador track team participated in the Dan Garbor track meet. At the end of the day, Lia Lebreton (‘25) came out on top and won the entire meet alongside other Amador students placing in the top ten.
Dan Garbor is one of the hardest track meets of the year. This is because it’s in the beginning of the new year and is said to be very competitive amongst the high school community.
“Dan Garbor is just a really hard track meet at the beginning of the year, a very competitive dome. We had some huge schools come out here with really good hurdler programs, so [Lebreton] had good competition and got to see exactly who she’s gonna go against for NCS and MLC and State,” said Coach Elias Pico.
While preparing for this competitive tournament, there was a lot of training ahead for Lebreton to get ready for one of the biggest tournaments of the year. When getting ready, there were some struggles that Lebreton had faced, but she knew she could do it and gave it her all.
“Especially in past years, it’s hard to take into account weather a lot before the event, and also your adrenaline level, like how ready you are for the mean or not. Sometimes, you get into your head about it, but I’ve learned to just get rid of that and just get it out of my head and run as fast as I can and it has worked out so far,” shared Lebreton.
Lebreton has inspired many runners around her and has not given up. According to her teammates, she has always made sure the team was ready and doing the best they can.
“Lia has a really good work ethic. She’s always ready to help other people learn new things and she’s very patient and very understanding. So, in addition to being a good athlete, she’s just a really good teammate because she makes sure that the whole team is performing well too,” said teammate Dhruvi Shah (‘25).
