Last weekend from March 20-23rd, the Pleasanton Public Library held their bi-annual book and media sale. Throughout the year, people donated books and games eventually creating a great community event for us all.
“157 Main is where all the books that people donate exist. When people donate the books, they get organized into the appropriate boxes. So they work on that for the six months before the next book sale,” said Nancy Bering, Friends of the Pleasanton Library President.
Donations
The book and media sale sees many people throughout the weekend, ranging from people looking for fiction stories to those looking for exam prep books all at discounted prices. The sale attracts people of all ages due to the variety of items it offers.
“I just really love libraries. They’re really important for the folks to come learn, and this is also such a great opportunity to spread knowledge,” said Pleasanton resident Soumya Longa.
The proceeds gained from the book fair go back to the library to help sustain all of their programs.
“The proceeds go back for all the children’s programs, the adult programs, all of that. So that we can have all these programs that we need. So they just go into the library to all the programs,” said Bering.
Variety of Items
Several hundred people visit the library bi-annually to explore all of the games, books, DVDs and other items on sale. The entire event is run by volunteers who work at the library so that the community can enjoy the benefits of this project.
“We start to plan a good month before it starts. But we’ve already got this room reserved for a year,” said Bering.
Overall, the Book and Media Sale at the Pleasanton Library is a community event attracting roughly hundreds of customers bi annually. It’s purpose is to fund a variety of programs hosted at the library. People look forward to this event to be able to give back to the community and indulge in their love of reading.
