On Friday, March 7th, Amador Valley High School concluded its annual Donversity Week with the highly anticipated Donversity Rally—a vibrant celebration of the school’s diverse culture and community.
“Donversity is a very rare thing that many schools don’t have… The fact that we have [Donversity] is so special to Amador, and it’s such a great thing to celebrate,” said Jiya Channon (‘26), a Donversity rally lead.
The rally served as the culmination of the week’s festivities, bringing students together to witness a showcase of cultural performances by various clubs. The result was an energetic and inclusive event that highlighted the rich diversity within the school.
“I think the rally is important because it showcases all the cultures from Amador Valley and brings everybody together in one place, so people can really notice and observe it,” said rally spectator Owen Wat (‘28).
Opportunity to Represent
For many students, the rally offered a rare opportunity to experience the diversity of their peers firsthand. Performances ranged from dance routines to music and cultural presentations, creating an atmosphere of celebration and learning.
“The school is a place where you can be in a room of learning and appreciating each other’s cultures. We recognize the great diversity of our school [is a benefit of Donversity],” said Soyeon Kim (‘27), treasurer of the Korean Culture Club.
Months of preparation went into organizing the rally, with many clubs starting their performance plans as early as December 2024. The Leadership team played a pivotal role, adapting to several changes to ensure the event’s success.
“It takes a lot of time—over two months of planning. It was a lot of effort, a lot of re-strategizing, because a lot was new about this rally. The host spoke a lot less, we had a speaker from outside of the school, and we had over four new performances this year. It was more effort than most people would think,” said Channon.
Beyond being a cultural celebration, Donversity also provided clubs with an opportunity to gain visibility and encourage student participation.
“I love performing for my friends and getting the opportunity to show my culture to my school. [It also] brings a lot of publicity to our club and hopefully encourages more people to join,” said Keira Venketsamy (‘26), Bollywood team captain.
Ultimately, the Donversity Rally served as a unifying event, celebrating the diverse talents and cultures that shape Amador Valley’s community.
“It’s a lot of fun to be able to perform at Donversity. It gives us an opportunity to do what we love and celebrate a great cause,” said Aanya Bhandari (‘25), AV Pom Team captain.
