The Amador Valley High School JustServe Club is dedicated to community service, bringing students together to make a positive impact through various projects.
Reflecting on Club Memories
“The reason I joined the JustServe Club is because my friends are the officers, so I go to their meetings. But it’s actually been a really fun experience. I love doing all the activities. And right now we’re making candy hearts or whatever, and it’s really fun. I think because everybody kind of comes together, and you meet people you don’t know, and it’s really fun,” said club member Noor Gupta (‘26).
The club chooses to do all sorts of activities that help the local community.
“I think I really enjoyed doing the cards for senior citizens. They were really fun to do, and you could write cute messages for them, and it was just so cute,” said Gupta.
Supporting Club Initiatives
“We meet as a leadership, and the leadership decides what they want to do. I’m here to support them and their decisions, make sure they’re not too crazy in what they want to do, and make sure we have the budget to do it,” said Club Advisor Bruce Byrd.
Club Inclusivity
The club’s inclusivity and welcoming atmosphere are obvious in its open elections and invitations to all students.
“We have an open election every year for our officers, and we do broadcasts and seek to invite everyone that would like to serve. We have invited those that have special needs to join us as well, so we try to make it as inclusive as we can,” said Byrd.
Effective Communication
“We have an email list, so we send out emails to everybody. And everybody that comes to our meetings signs in and writes down their email so we can add them to the list. So they can be notified about future meetings. And then we also use Instagram posts and word of mouth,” said Club Officer Stella Short (‘26).
The club’s wide variety of projects ensures that there’s something for everyone.
“We do everything from packing lunches for homeless people and tying blankets for them to making valentines for classmates and decorating the office for staff. We spread joy both within our school community and outside of it,” said Short.
The Bigger Impact
“The cool thing about JustServe is that it isn’t just at Amador. It’s a community outreach thing. For Veterans Day, we’ll put flags for veterans’ gravestones and organize food drives. It’s amazing how our collective efforts bring about positive change,” said Club President Emmy Hoopes (‘26).
Through its various activities, the JustServe Club has not only brought the student body together but also made a tangible difference in the community.
“We do a lot of things for the homeless as well, putting together hygiene kits and food bags, and it has brought, I think, the student body together as we work together as a group, and also really helps those that are in need throughout our community,” said Byrd.
The joy and fulfillment that come from helping others are what keep both the club members and advisors motivated.
“I see the joy in their faces as they do something for people, and that brings me a great deal of joy, and it’s why I stay with it,” said Hoopes.
