On Feb. 9, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles went face to face for the championship title at the 59th Super Bowl. Ultimately, the Philadelphia Eagles took the win, having a large lead throughout the majority of the game. Performing in the halftime shows were Kendrick Lamar and SZA, but the biggest deal of all? It’s widely agreed that the Super Bowl parties highlight community bonding and the popular American finger foods.
It’s imperative to have a variety of snacks and treats for guests to enjoy while watching an intense game. In a room full of avid football fans, food is often a universal activity that brings people together.
“Having snacks and staple foods during big community events like the Super Bowl is a great way to keep communities or neighborhoods together. There’s not a lot of opportunities for communities to bond outside of events like this,” said Jasleen Singh (‘27)
One of the most popular snacks or food items to eat during the Super Bowl is any type of finger food. This could include chips, barbeque wings, pizza, etc. At a gathering, most of the food is picked for their convenience and to make sure most of the guest’s attention is solely on the game.
“I had chicken wings, crackers on hummus, and pizza for dinner. I think these kinds of foods are popular for events like these because it’s easy to pick up and grab instead of like a steak. You can just grab a wing or two or a pizza slice, especially for a group of people, it’s easy to access,” said football enthusiast Kevin Wong.
As many attendees are not always avid fans of football, indulging in a party with tasty food and a fun community is more up their alley.
“I usually like eating chips and gummy candies. I specifically like the brands Haribo Gummy and the original Ruffles. They are just very addicting. I’m also not a super big football fan so it’s more about gathering and just hanging out with friends,” said Superbowl watcher, Kathy Tan.
