On Jan. 31, Briarcliff released the highly anticipated film Valiant One, bringing together talented actors like Chase Stokes, Lana Condor, and Desmin Borges. Directed by Steve Barnett, the action-packed thriller runs for approximately 80 minutes and features intense combat sequences and stunning cinematography. In its first week, Valiant One made an impressive debut, keeping audiences on edge with its heart-racing action and suspenseful storytelling.
“From the first scene, I was completely hooked. The way they build up the suspense, it’s hard to look away,” said Minsung Kim.
About the Story
Set in South Korea, Valiant One follows U.S. Army Captain Edward Brockman as he unexpectedly takes command after a mission near the North Korean border goes awry. When a storm causes their helicopter to crash, the surviving soldiers must navigate hostile terrain with limited supplies, racing toward an extraction point where a Delta Force rescue team awaits. With tensions high and danger at every turn, every decision becomes a matter of life and death.
“I’ve seen a lot of military films, but Valiant One really stands out,” said Kelvin Liu. “It’s really intense and you kind of feel like you’re right there with them.”
Based on a True Story
While Valiant One is a fictional story, it draws inspiration from real-life incidents involving American soldiers near the Korean border. The film was made with immense respect for those who serve, with some lead actors having family members in the army. Director Steve Barnett and writer Dwayne Smith aimed to create an authentic portrayal of military life, conducting in-depth research to capture the realities of communication and faith among soldiers.
Why Watch?
Valiant One stands out with its unique depiction of war, combining fast-paced action with high-stakes scenarios. The stellar performances by the cast bring a raw intensity to the story, making it a compelling watch.
That said, while the movie does a great job of engaging its audience, it doesn’t fully delve into the emotional storyline. Much of the emotions feel underdeveloped, making it harder to form a connection with the characters.
“I was expecting a bit more of the emotional depth to balance out the action. Still, it’s an intense thrill ride,” said Karissa Ng.
Nevertheless, Valiant One is an exciting, adrenaline-filled thriller that definitely won’t disappoint.
