Pleasanton’s renowned landmark, The Meadowlark Dairy, will branch out to Livermore. The new location will open in the spring of 2025.
“I think it’s good to share our culture and what makes us unique. Meadowlark is really popular, and it brings people from everywhere,” said employee Arcadia Clarke (‘26).
Few Pleasanton locals know about the new location. Residents didn’t expect the Dairy, renowned for its famous and historical presence in Pleasanton, to move elsewhere.
“I was surprised, as I always thought of Meadowlark Dairy as a Pleasanton tradition. In fourth grade, I got to see all the ice cream being made. It just feels very integral to Pleasanton, and it surprised me that the owners would take such a symbol and put it in another place,” said Malvika Nagaraj (‘26).
However, Pleasanton locals and workers of the Dairy anticipate its Livermore counterpart to be a success. They expect the new location to operate without harming the booming popularity and business of the original.
“I think it’ll help because they have the brand name Meadowlark Dairy, which has been around for ages. As long as they have a good first impression their business will continue to thrive,” said Nagaraj.
Those looking for work and teenagers find a great opportunity for employment at the downtown Dairy. With the Pleasanton Dairy proving to be a popular place to work, the Livermore Dairy is also expected to bring more work opportunities to the city.
“I think expanding the chain is gonna be profitable. It will be good because it gives more kids opportunities to work, double the locations, double the employment. It will open up a whole new section of kids from Livermore,” said Meadowlark Dairy Manager Emily Schuchardt.
One of Meadowlark Dairy’s prime features is its drive-through, making the ice cream distribution process efficient and simple. Though both Meadowlark locations will operate similarly, the Livermore Dairy supposedly will open without a drive-through.
“It’s gonna start as a walk-in. It may convert [to a drive-through] so it kinda depends on the immediate success and then whatever Livermore decides” said Schuchardt.
Curious locals find themselves willing to try out the new Meadowlark; however, with this sweet spot located just downtown, Pleasanton’s famous Meadowlark Dairy will remain as busy as ever.
“I’ll probably go just to check it out the Livermore location to see what the difference is, but probably not a lot just because I live so close to downtown,” said Nagaraj (‘26).
