Liliana Caples (‘26), Amador Valley High School Junior, commits to Princeton University as a D1 athlete for swimming after the recruitment process period.
“All the relays I have with my friends and teammates and how much fun we have just screaming at each other and all the hype keeps me going every single day,” said Caples.
The sport is something that she fell in love with from the start.
“Swimming has been such a big part of my life that if I wanna continue it in the future, I think it’d be an amazing thing to do,” said Caples.
Caples has been invested in the sport since childhood. Since the beginning, her family has committed themselves to support her through the ups and downs of competitive swimming.
“My brother was a huge inspiration of mine. He started sometime before I did and I was a bit of a copycat and went into it too,” said Caples.
The long recruitment process soon went underway in order to find the perfect fit for Caples. There were challenging decisions to make along the way.
“The most difficult thing was deciding where I was going to go. I had a lot of great schools that I visited,” said Caples.
In the end, Princeton was best fit for Caples because of its academic and athletic rigor.
“Princeton has the best programs in the nation and my brother is also attending there right now. Their swim program is amazing and the team there has fantastic people,” said Caples.
Caples’ long road to D1 athlete serves as an inspiration of tenacity and resolve to Amador students. She’s excited to pave her path in a new place with all the right tools for her.
“Being a Tiger, being on campus is just an amazing thing. I’m excited for the team and the culture I’ll get to be in,” said Caples.
