Each year, finding a new year’s resolution or a way to start fresh can be challenging. A great way to start the year is by resetting your body to stay healthy and prevent sickness. Healthy foods to include in your meal plan that are rich in vitamins and nutrients.
“I think this is important because you have a new start for yourself, it can really be a motivation boost and helpful. It’ll make you feel better about yourself too if you’re getting this nice reset” said Nicole Zhang (‘27).
Here are three food tips and tricks to initiate your January Detox.
1.Immune System
Having a strong immune system is an important factor in your body that works to fight disease and illness.
“Your immune system is your body’s first-line defense against invaders like germs. It helps protect you from getting sick and promotes healing when you’re unwell or injured” says Cleveland Clinic researchers.
Foods that can assist a healthy gut biome include fruits and vegetables such as oranges, red bell peppers, and broccoli which are rich in many vitamins. Ginger and garlic support fighting infections, and even yogurt!
2.Staying Hydrated
Water is essential to everyone’s daily lives, so it is especially important to stay hydrated throughout the day. Doing so will also help your body digest food, stay energized, and maintain a bright mood!
“Experts recommend drinking roughly 11 cups of water per day for the average woman and 16 for men. And not all of those cups have to come from plain water; for example, some can come from water flavored with fruit or vegetables (lemons, berries, or orange or cucumber slices), or from coffee or tea” says Harvard T.H. Chan.
3.Maintaining a Balanced Diet
Maintaining a balanced diet does not have to be counting calories or dieting. It can also be fun! It’s important to remember to include nutritious foods in your everyday meals and snacks. It is also key to balance your vegetables, whole grains, fruits, and healthy proteins for a fully nutrient-balanced meal
With these three habits in mind, maintaining a strong immune system, staying hydrated, and establishing a balanced diet, there is no doubt that the new year will also bring new you! This reboot for your body will help you tackle the new year fresh, strong, and sickness-free!
