This year, members of the French Honors Society gathered to celebrate National French Week during lunch and access period on November 14th, 2024. The annual celebration takes place from November 10th to the 16th.
“National French Week is celebrated over all of the United States by French teachers and the French programs in general. It’s a celebration of French in the United States and letting more people know about it,” said club president Leah Labruton (‘25).
Preparations
To prepare for the event, the officers of the club worked together to create presentations introducing the celebration, advertising via their social media account, and signing up members who wanted to bring food.
“I collaborated with the other members to get all the side decks sorted out, but I owe it to all the higher officers. I think they did a lot to get the event successful in running,” said club historian Christa Michelle Ashok Patrick Jude (27’).
Some foods that the class created were cheese plates, croissants, and cider for all club members to enjoy.
“There’s a lot of French food, so it’s representative of French food and French cuisine,” said club member Kaitlyn Rim (27’).
Famous artists such as Indila and Angèle were some of the artists that the class listened to over the week.
“We’re trying to share and also listen to French music, which is also something that people don’t do outside of the club[…]” said Labruton (25’).
Other than tasting foods and listening to music unique to France, members of the club also came up to present about a famous French celebrity of their choice during access.
“The students who presented did some really good research, and I think it was a great way for them to deep dive on this for themselves and the students who watched the presentations definitely got a lot of input on that.” said club historian Christa Michelle Ashok Patrick Jude (27’).
For the members of the Honors French Society, National French Week is a great way to learn more about French culture.
“I think it’s a great way to celebrate the francophone culture and learn about all the different francophone countries and their customs” explained Christa Ashok (27’).
