The Amador Valley girls varsity volleyball team is on a journey of rebuilding and resiliency this season, pushing through early challenges and upsets against other teams. Now, they look towards a league victory and a strong run in the NCS playoffs.
“We’re experimenting with a lot of different things, and kudos to the girls. The players are completely open to doing new things, trying new things, and they’re working really, really hard,” said varsity head coach Jacky Yao.
Following eight seniors graduating, the team looked to fresh faces from JV to fill key roles. They brought renewed energy and commitment to the squad.
“Building trust, holding each other accountable, and staying disciplined throughout the season have been essential for us to perform at our best,” said team captain Charlotte Kelly (‘25).
With her final season underway, Kelly hopes to guide her younger teammates, hoping to be a role model on and off the court.
“I want to be the best for my teammates, especially for the younger girls on the team,” said Kelly.
The chemistry of the Girls Volleyball is evident after their numerous upsets on big teams from the Bay Area.
“Against SRV—a team that we weren’t supposed to win against—we lost the first set and we lost the second set. After the second set, we came together and collectively realized we were right here. It was a close game, and we can do this. The talk really pumped us and we went out there, won the third set, and the rest is history,” said team captain Sydney Goldstein (‘25).
Heading into North Coast Section (NCS), the girls’ volleyball team stays strong, focusing on accountability and pushing their boundaries.
“In the middle of the season, the captains emphasized holding everyone more accountable,” said Goldstein, “that mindset changed our outlook.”
Preparing for NCS playoffs, the Amador Valley girls varsity volleyball team showcases resilience, teamwork, and remarkable growth this season. By embracing accountability and supporting one another, they have transformed early challenges into opportunities for success. Their impressive upsets against strong opponents demonstrate their potential and determination to compete at a high level.
“But all in all, I think we are starting to peak at the right time. And the girls are working hard; we’re looking forward to it!” said Yao.
