Amador Valley hosted its annual Staff Pie Social on Wednesday, November 20th, bringing teachers and faculty together for sweets and camaraderie. Organized by the Sunshine Committee (a support group that holds events for Amador’s teachers and faculty), the event aimed to celebrate staff milestones, foster connections, and show appreciation for the hard work of Amador’s educators.
“We want staff to come together and enjoy pie, be social, and get to know each other a little bit better…and enjoy the yummy desserts and just let everyone know how much everybody’s appreciated,” said Amador head counselor Sheryl Pacheco.
A Thoughtful Holiday Gathering
The Staff Pie Social, held during brunch in the staff lounge, served as a brief but meaningful opportunity for staff to unwind and connect. Inside the lounge, a long buffet table offered a colorful array of apple, pecan, and pumpkin pies, as well as cakes for those who preferred other treats.
“Ms. Yu, who’s in charge of it all, [went] to Costco to pick up apple, pecan, and pumpkin pies, and a couple of cakes for those who don’t like pie,” said Pacheco.
Building Staff Morale
Teachers expressed gratitude for the event, which provided a rare chance to step out of their classrooms and engage with colleagues.
“I feel like teachers are often in their own individual rooms and don’t always get to see each other, so it’s nice to build a little bit of staff morale,” said Amador English and Comp Civics teacher Stacey Sklar.
The event also created a relaxing atmosphere, pairing friendly conversations with holiday spirit to ease the transition into Thanksgiving break.
“I think that November is a time when we’re all tired and ready for a break…it’s a nice time for us to get together with colleagues that we don’t necessarily see on a daily basis,” said English teacher Amy Suto.
The Sunshine Committee’s efforts to foster connections and support teachers have not gone unnoticed. The Pie Social gave staff a chance to pause, reflect, and enjoy one another’s company during a busy time of year.
“We can just get together and enjoy each other as colleagues, friends, and human beings, and I always think that’s a great thing,” said Suto.
