From Nov. 14-16, Amador Valley High School showcased Arthur Miller’s The Crucible in a stunning live performance. The drama club, known for its annual fall productions ranging from intense dramas to lively musicals, captivated the audience once again.
A Unique Ending Leaves a Lasting Impression
“The highlight of the show? Definitely the ending—it has people with high emotion. Usually, when you see a play, it has a happy ending, but in this case, it’s a sad ending. I think it’s pretty unique,” said Abhi Moore (’26).
The young actors breathed life into the classic story, creating an engaging experience for the audience. To ensure perfection, the cast rehearsed tirelessly for two hours every Monday through Thursday. They also promoted the play through social media campaigns and posters around campus.
Finding Inspiration in the Play
“Well, I had several teachers who advertised the auditions. We were reading The Crucible in class, so I thought it would be fun to give it a go,” said Adele Ekrechetov (’26).
Adele shared her excitement about stepping into a new character. It presented a new opportunity for her growth in theater.
“It’s very fun to play someone who is nothing like me. Portraying emotions and tactics of such a different person is a great experience. I don’t yell much in real life, so getting to yell feels therapeutic.”
Overcoming the Challenges of Acting
Theater acting demands resilience and focus. Actors must memorize lengthy lines, handle complex phrases, and stay energized during rehearsals.
“There were a few challenging lines with strange phrases I wouldn’t normally use. The hardest part, though, is keeping the energy high in the tense moments. I focus on the character—what he knows, what he doesn’t know, and how he reacts to new information. That helps me stay in the moment,” said Colin Gillette (’25).
Building Bonds Through Theater
Despite the challenges, actors found immense joy in performing alongside talented peers.
“The most rewarding part has been the people. They are so talented, fun, and amazing. I just love being around them,” added Colin.
Through their hard work and dedication, the drama club delivered a memorable performance, proving once again the magic of live theater.
