During third and fourth period Oct. 25, Amador Valley High School hosted the annual Harvest Dance. Kids from all over PUSD came to the Large Gym for this fun activity.
Process of planning
“We’ve been planning it since the beginning of the year after homecoming, it started to pick up. Each day in leadership, we just kinda work on a different task to make sure everything’s getting done.” said ASB Treasurer Ariana Luan (‘25).
Throughout the planning process, leadership was there to supervise the event. Each year, the dance varies by the organizer and this year, the dance required a lot of preparation. In addition, leadership partnered with the AV Drama Class for kids to go through the haunted house.
Logistics
“We planned for fall-themed decorations [and] fall-themed games for them to participate in and to connect with the leadership class. We’re signing people out to help with decorations and stuff because we really wanna make it fun and festive,” said Mia DeMichiel (‘27).
The team also had to handle the logistics, from the cost and t0 the number of attendees.
“We take into consideration our budget [and] what we have the space for. We make sure that we reserve all the facilities and all of our supplies are prepared before. [We’re] planning games and buying things and coordinating with the schools and making sure all the logistics are working,” said Luan.
Leadership prioritizes the concerns of the students when planning events like these. Planning and considering the different aspects of the dance is one of their most important tasks.
“We had to think about the kids, sensory issues, and not having the music too loud. And having good spacing so things aren’t too crowded and having a good flow in the event,” said Addy Moe (‘28).
With Halloween, the dance had proved to ‘harvest’ hearty laughs and chuckles. The autumn season and chocolatey hot drinks inspired the decorations, having room for everyone to feel included.
“It’s the fall harvest weather. It inspires the dance just to get in the Halloween holiday spirit,” said dance supervisor Tim Roach.
