Amador Valley’s Mr. Amador Show blends talent and heart for a worthy cause. The program raises money for George Mark Children’s House through a fun, choreographed competition. The boys perform dances and skits throughout the year, showcasing their unique personalities.
“Mr. Amador is mostly for fun, but all of the proceeds go to George Mark, which is a palliative care center for children in the last moments of their lives. They can spend that time in a community with their family. It’s really nice,” said Mr. Amador director Hunter Selkow (‘25).
Participants for the event are selected through staff recommendations and nominations from previous years’ participants. This process ensures that the selected boys best represent the show and its values.
“So the boys are picked by a number of staff recommendations, and then, last year’s boys will nominate other boys,” said Selkow.
Rayyan Shah (‘26), a current Mr. Amador Boy, shared how he became involved in the program.
“I know some people from last year. They referred me because they felt we needed some South Asian representation again. My history teacher also thought I was a good fit and wanted me to be on it,” said Shah.
Fun and Fundraising
One of the main responsibilities of Mr. Amador’s directors is organizing fundraisers, including the main event, which features skits, dances, and auctions. The show brings together entertainment and a serious cause to raise awareness and support for George Mark Children’s House.
“Our most notable events are the dances we do at the Diversity Rally or during the reveal. The show is skit-based, with a lot of different things like auctions,” said Selkow.
This year, directors plan to host new fundraising events that aim to raise even more money.
“We’re gonna be doing…a lot of different fundraisers this year. We have some good ones planned, but I don’t think I can say yet,” said Selkow.
Building a Community
Beyond the fun performances, Mr. Amador creates a sense of community among the participants.
“I really liked everyone that was picked this year and last year. Both years, it’s just become a kind of community, and I’ve made close friends….I still stay in contact with the seniors that graduated.” said Selkow.
A Meaningful Impact
The Mr. Amador show is also a meaningful way for students to contribute to a greater cause. With laughter, talent, and a deep sense of purpose, the Mr. Amador Show continues to make a lasting impact. It brings the community together for a cause that truly matters.
“When we visited the house, it was really moving to see the wall with the names of the people who were there. Like, this is how much of an impact we have on these families and, how good it is for a community,” said Selkow.
