Friday Night Lights themes announced
With the 2024 football season in full swing, Amador’s leadership program has announced its Friday Night Lights themes to boost school spirit. At home football games, students may show their support by dressing up according to the respective themes.
“Everyone follows the same theme, but with hints of their unique styles and different tastes. It allows for a sense of community within the student body and more interaction with the sport,” said leadership student Caydence Likeness (‘25).
Part of a long-established tradition, the student body spends around two weeks planning these themes. This year, the themes are Minions, Rodeo, Neon, Don Deckout, Pinkout, and Camouflage.
“We look for ideas that have been successful for other schools in order to mirror that same success on our campus,” said Likeness.
The school spirit themes change every year based on growing trends. Ultimately, these spirit themes facilitate community bonding by increasing student interaction and engagement.
Themes build school spirit
“A school culture is created when students show their pride in their school by wearing school colors, going to sporting events, and dressing up on spirit days,” said JV Football Coach Christopher Murphy.
Student turnout can impact the perception of school spirit. However, regardless of the number of students present, showing school spirit remains influential in creating a positive, supportive atmosphere.
“There were more people in the stands last year, and I feel like people always leave at halftime. The school spirit turnout can definitely be better,” said football player Calvin Albertson (‘27).
For some football players, having FNL themes serves as an additional motivator to perform their best. As a result, athletes are able to showcase their skills and dedication in front of a spirited crowd.
“Amador has a lot of talented players and I think that the kids are going to have a great season. We have a good collective group of kids who work really hard. They want to get better every day of practice,” said Murphy.
