To cherish and celebrate the last year of high school, seniors participate in senior traditions. Through planned activities, they deck out to be Dons for the very last year.
“I see everyone doing the kid backpacks which made me really proud because I didn’t see that a lot in my previous years. I’m so glad people in my grade are doing it,” said Jeannie Han (‘25).
A variety of senior traditions and activities take place throughout the year, starting at the end of junior summer. Some include students decorating their cars with markers after senior sunrise, kid backpacks, and senior ditch day.
“[Senior sunrise and decorating cars] is always a great tradition. You get to see all the other cars around campus and know that you’re also a senior. Another cool tradition I think is the senior backpacks. We buy them just as a homage to our younger selves because it is our last year,” said ASB Vice President Ellie Kim (‘25).
Both the graduating class and the ASB officers organize these events. Leadership leads events like movie night, while individuals organize other events like beach day and backpacks. The traditions promote unity and school spirit around Amador and allow seniors to commemorate their last year of high school.
“It’s a great way for seniors to get together and participate in activities. For instance, the backpacks are a great way because it’s really cool to see everyone come together and actually agree on doing something,” said Kim.
The senior traditions symbolize the end of the student’s high school career and the transition into adulthood. They represent a passage to a new chapter and the memories of a student’s final moments.
“As a senior, I can show off that I attended here for four years. So being able to have the privileges of being a senior and doing these kinds of things feels like an earned thing,” said Han.
