Now that the winter sports are ongoing, students of Amador Valley High School gear up to take the spring season concussion baseline testing as a way to medically clear themselves.
The importance of these baselines testing is quite crucial for both athletes and trainers. Along with this simple test comes many protocols of safety for the season some athletes are about to endure.
“It tests for a lot of memory and visuals and focuses on the motor skills,” said AV Sports Med Trainer Diana Hasenpflug.
In addition to assessing your skills through the test, there are valuable advantages that accompany the examination. Successfully completing the test not only contributes to your future success but also serves as a positive reflection, providing support in times of adversity.
“The reason to take the concussion test and not cheat is because when an athlete gets hurt and gets an actual concussion, you want to make sure that you can take it again so you can see how bad the concussion is,” said Nicholas Accornero (‘26)
As worthwhile as it is to check in on yourselves, it is also a requirement by the government to get your baseline testing done and checked by the right licensed staff.
“If someone has sustained a concussion, then they have to be checked by a licensed physician by the law of the state,”said Hasenpflug.
