Glamour Gals, a nationwide foundation, encourages students to be more involved in their community, especially in caring for seniors. Amador’s own Glamour Gals Club visits senior centers in Pleasanton every other week to provide companionship and makeovers to senior homes.
“I first started Glamour Gals when I was a freshman. [Our club] goes to senior homes, and we paint their nails and have conversations with them so they don’t feel left out,” said Glamour Gals President Ameya Tubati (’25).
Overview and motivations
Tubati initially joined the Glamour Gals Club to provide company to seniors in Pleasanton. Now, as president, she hopes to stay involved in senior centers to spread awareness and show gratitude to the senior community.
“It is difficult to talk to my grandparents in India because of the language barrier, so I understand what it’s like to feel lonely. So, I want to help elderly people here so they feel [like they are] a part of our community,” said Tubati.
The primary goal of the Glamour Gals Club is for Amador students to stay engaged with the Pleasanton community. By regularly visiting senior centers, the club hopes to listen to the seniors’ stories and eliminate the generational barrier.
“Being able to talk to people and helping seniors is definitely a big part of my goal to help others and serve the community. I think we should make efforts to learn more about seniors to truly connect our society,” said Glamour Gals Communications Officer Eva Carranza (’25).
The Glamour Gals Club holds a variety of activities for the seniors and works hard to come up with new ideas for every visit.
“We do carnivals for seniors, nail polish, makeovers, and basically anything like that to interact with them more. I think they really enjoy it, and they’re usually excited when we come,” said Tubati.
Members find reciprocal benefits by participating in the Glamour Gals Club. With its plentiful volunteer opportunities, it can help members reach their volunteer goals while also allowing them to help out with the senior community.
“Along with the [senior service] hours, I hope to create a bond with the people in the club and the elderly folk I meet. The senior home visits are loads of fun,” said Allya Mukherjee (’25).
The Road Ahead
Members of the Glamour Gals aim to continue advertising their club to bring together more students. They hope to expand their efforts and visit other senior centers, expanding their reach in the Pleasanton community.
“My vision for the club is for it to become a bit bigger. I’d really love to see more people join it,” said Carranza. “It would be really great if we could have enough club members to go to different senior centers so more people know about the organization and become more involved.”
