The sci-fi action movie The Meg released its sequel The Meg 2: The Trench on September 29, 2023. The Meg highlights its plot around the prehistoric 70-foot-long shark the Megladon that is accidentally released during oceanic exploration.
In the first movie, Mana One, the multi-billion dollar company for sea exploration discovers an underwater world deeper than the Mariana Trench. While exploring their successful theory, they discover the existence of Megladons living underneath the trench and are alerted by their intrusion. Escaping attacks and tragic events, they open a passage for the Megladons to resurface to the world and cause a horrid turning of events—man versus Meg.
About the Story
Meg 2 goes further into Mana One’s oceanic exploration despite its previous contact with the dangers of the unknown ocean. Jiuming, the son of Zhang (the founder of Mana One), combines his own company with his late father to continue his purpose for exploration. He also fosters a baby Megladon, training it like an ordinary pet. Meiying, Jiuming’s niece, stubbornly takes after her mom’s affiliation with the sea and science and stirs trouble. Her curiosity and determination has her overstepping the safety of the boundaries by hiding in a submarine during a mission.
During exploration, they discover another company mining rare metals using Jiuming’s technology. Exposed, these mysterious miners set off explosions to cover their illegal activity and attempt to kill them. Fortunately, heroic and experienced diver Jonas Taylor, played by Jason Statham, saves them once again. Safely resurfacing to their base, they are face to face with a mole in their team.
Unexpected twists and turns occur, and they ironically must save Fun Island, a tourist attraction, from Megladons, a Kraken, and prehistoric aquatic creatures. While saving hundreds of people, they face instances of running into their enemy whilst having to bring thousands of people to safety. The second movie implements the same iconic scenes and cheesy punchlines as the first, bringing back the unique aspects of The Meg movies.
