Srikar Pasala (’24) – 1st Place in Creative Problem Solving
What event did you compete in?
I competed in creative problem-solving. We were given a problem and we had to figure out a solution to solve it, and our situation was basically about how some children experience domestic violence at home. We had to come up with a solution to help kids in that situation and make it cost-efficient to able to reach those goals.
Did you expect to win?
We thought we did well because one of the judges was actually a student and she told us that the other judges liked it, so we thought we would place but we didn’t think we would get first place, so it was just unexpected.
How did you prepare for the competition?
To prepare we just went on ChatGPC and found basic situations and we just did them the night before, we didn’t really prepare as much as others. Last year the other team won second place and they prepared a lot more than us, so we didn’t think we did that well. We didn’t prepare as much as we would have liked to.
What are your future goals?
We have a chance to go international this year and that’s in Dallas. We are thinking about going to that. Next year we plan on going again, but we don’t know if we will have the same groups or not, but we still plan on doing Hosa next year.
