Joseph Cho (’24) – 1st Place in Dental Terminology
What event did you compete in?
I competed in an event called Dental Terminology and it was basically a test on different terminology that dentists use and other medical terms in the field of dentistry. After that, I took a test. Everyone from California that also decided to compete in Dental Terminology got ranked on their score, then based on that after we qualified we go to the second round of testing and then after we take that second test, our placements come in. I ended up placing first.
Did you expect to win?
When I was taking the test I was actually nervous because I didn’t think I did that good, but when my name was called to come up to the stage I was really proud of myself and I was happy that I put all my hard work into studying for the test.
How did you prepare for the competition? Any challenges?
I would say just like having that determination and commitment to keep studying like there were a lot of terms to memorize and a lot of books to read, overcoming that obstacle helped me succeed most.
What are your future goals?
This year our club was really successful in all of the events we competed in so I guess looking forward I want our club to keep being successful and keep having people place in the top 5 placements. I’m a co-President of the club. Being a co-president of this club kind of gave me a better perspective on the medical field, one thing the medical field is known for is communicating with different people whether it be patients or other hospital personnel. It gave me a chance to see how I can communicate with other people along with helping other officers.
