Riya Trivedi (’24) – 1st Place in Creative Problem Solving
What event did you compete in?
I competed in human growth and development which was just a written test on human growth and development and then creative problem solving where they give you a medical related issue and then you have 30 minutes to solve the problem and then 8 minutes to present it. You do this in groups of three to five.
Did you expect to win?
I got really proud of ourselves because we spent the night before studying really hard and trying to come up with ideas for what we could do. I didn’t really expect the win because we didn’t realize the written test would be included in our score we so didn’t really study that much for it, but I was happy and surprised.
How did you prepare for the competition?
For the written test for human growth and development, I used Quizlet which was not enough because I did not place. For creative problem solving, I tried to get to know my team really well because like then we worked better together during the 30 minutes that we had with the problem and then come up with a solution that we thought would work for everything.
What are your future goals?
Next year I think instead of creative problem solving, I’m going to do one of the more medicine related events for skills and I’m also going to start studying earlier for the written tests for other events so I can do better next year.
