AV Choir serenades students, staff on Valentine’s Day

The AV Choir surprised students around campus by singing to them in front of their whole class on Valentine’s Day. Students and staff members could fill out requests through a Google form, and the choir would come and sing in groups.
First-year choir teacher Shelley Durbin came up with the idea, which students around campus enjoyed.
“Overall, we got good reception from most people. Some people really liked when we were singing certain songs, especially ‘Die For You,’,” said Sangeet Barkataki (‘24).
Choir members enjoyed singing for students and loved their experiences.
“I think we were all very excited to learn songs and we were excited to perform them. It was like different than I was expecting because we had to memorize a lot of songs, like more songs than I expected. We had to specifically memorize 11 one-minute songs, because we wanted to decrease repetition throughout the day, and I thought that was really interesting,” said Saesha Sharda (‘24).
Students for whom Singing Valentines were requested would come to the front of the class, stand up or sit down, and have a song performed for them.
“When they walked in the door I was a little nervous at first, but once they got started with their singing, I felt more comfortable and I was happy. “They came up to the front of the classroom and I stood in front of them, and they sang “Die for You,” and I really enjoyed it. A lot of my friends in the class enjoyed it as well, and it was just a wonderful experience,” said Shriya Jaishankar (‘25).
