After scoring a big hit with Jujutsu Kaisen, Studio MAPPA released a prequel movie: Jujutsu Kaisen 0. This movie is filled with action, humor, and emotion, to keep the audience on the edge of their seat from start to finish. Since it’s almost impossible to predict what will happen next, this movie is guaranteed to make your jaw drop.

Background

The movie takes place a year before season one, so our beloved second year sorcerers, Maki, Toge, and Panda, are being shown when they were first year sorcerers. Yuta, who just transferred to Jujutsu High, has a curse attached to him- and he has no control over it. 

Pros

With a sweet, sensitive, personality, Yuta is definitely one of my favorite characters in the film. He is the classic trope of someone determined wanting to better himself while also having to fight his own battles. Seeing how his confidence escalated through the film put a big smile on my face. Yuta goes to Jujutsu High to learn how to control the curse and use it for good. He is sent on missions with the other first years by Gojo, their comical but powerful teacher, to help him train and control the curse. 

Cons

Tension arises when Geto, a former Jujutsu High student, declares war on Jujutsu High’s current students and staff. He releases curses upon the city and challenges them to stop him, if they can. I felt like this incident was an interesting but sudden transition in the movie, for it was a bit of a drastic jump after things were going somewhat smoothly.

However, this left me holding my breath, thinking about what Jujutsu High’s members could do to defeat the inevitable evil. Yuta puts himself to the test to see if he can control his curse while battling an extremely powerful sorcerer.

What’s next?

With season two already in production, fans wonder if more characters will be introduced, and if more pressure will be placed on our protagonists’ shoulders. We’ll just have to wait in suspense until then.
