How did you first react when you heard you won the award?

When I saw that I won the awards, I was really happy. One of the pieces that I won a gold key for took a long time to complete so it felt nice knowing that it was worth it. Although I got an award for each work, seeing the silver keys remind me that there’s always room for improvement.

What was your favorite piece you submitted this year?

My favorite art piece that I made this year was called “Renaissance Fair.” I think I like this one the most because it was the first oil paint piece that I submitted to the competition. It took me a while to get the hang of the oil paint medium and I had to practice a lot to get it right.

What were the messages or themes you wanted to convey through your piece?

“Renaissance Fair” represents the bliss of childhood. The colors used are warmer and brighter to better portray the joy of being young. Meanwhile, the way the young girl is positioned in the painting is intended to make it seem like she’s lost in her thoughts.
