On November 18, there was a job fair held at the quad at Amador Valley during lunch. The job fair highlights the job opportunities available in the trade, apprenticeship, and military fields. 

“I think it’s a great opportunity to look at multiple career paths for my future,” said Zymon Baron (‘23).

The Navy’s College and Career Center, LPC Auto and Welding Technology, US Marine Corps, and many other organizations and programs attended the fair. One of the biggest appearances and the fair were from the military with the Navy and Marine Corps attending. According to the US Department of Defense, the military employs 3.2 million people, making it the largest employer in the world. 

“It is a good idea to join any branches of the military because it is a chance to gain experience in real world situations. It is something to build off of if you don’t know what you want to do in your future,” said a navy representative.

Trade jobs, with professions like technicians, designers, and web developers, were another field that has a big appearance at the fair. Countless tables with brochures, contact information, and extra details on each career gave students opportunity to get all the information they need to make decisions for their future. Trade jobs are in high demand right now because of a shortage of trade workers. 

“Trade careers give you practical and useful skills, incur less student loan debt, and allow you to earn experience and an education,” said a Las Positas Representative. 

Another program that made an appearance at the fair was the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Due to the rise of wildfires in California, the demand for firefighters has gone up. 

“Firefighting utilizes a wide array of skills and knowledge bases.You get to do new things everyday while helping people. It is one of those jobs where you know you are really making a difference in someone else’s life” said an FCTC (Firefighter Candidate Training Center) representative.

From the many different opportunities jobs offer, it is very hard to narrow down to just one. So it is important for high schoolers to start figuring out what job or profession they want to do in the future. 

“I think it’s important to start taking our future seriously and start trying to figure out what we want to do next in life,” said Baron.
