Kamala Harris, the 49th Vice President of the United States, is going to take the lead of the United States Space Council in a spot previously held by Mike Pence from 2017. The Biden Administration recently announced the revival of the Space Force organization and an update of the Space Council’s goals and funding.

“The president and vice president not only take this very seriously, they know how important it is in terms of innovation, in terms of creativity, in terms of the competitiveness of the United States — something the president talks about in his joint address Wednesday evening,” said Biden Administration Officials.

The Space Council’s new, reviewed, set of goals includes focusing on global warming, commercial space activity, enhancing cyber security in Space Force systems, and peaceful borders between countries going to space. The endeavour will not only help fund basic science but also improve economical advances towards more scientific research. An endeavor that earned the praise of Joe Biden to Space Council’s figureheads. 

“I just can’t tell you how much I believe historians are going to write about what you did at the moment you all did it,”said Joe Biden, US President.

Kamala Harris plans to take this new responsibility very seriously, and other members of the Biden Council are on board with the new update. Adding on to Harris’s growing list of attributes and responsibilities of Vice President. This is especially important because of the recent update of China’s plans to send the first person to Mars through various Rocket testing, a development that some fear might bring another Space Race between the United States and China to get to Mars.
