‘Drivers license’, released by Olivia Rodrigo on January 8th 2021, is a new, incredibly popular song. This is her debut single as a musician and the video itself gained over 93 million views in a single month.

Besides having a successful musical debut, Olivia had been known as an actor in ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ and ‘Bizaardvark’. 

I did watch ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’, so I knew her from that. I thought it was impressive that someone so young could produce a top chart hit,” said Kaitlyn Peng(‘21).

Many fans speculated that the song itself was about a rumored relationship between her and Joshua Bassett, her HSMTMTS co-star.

“I think all the drama is really funny because I’m pretty sure the whole thing was a publicity stunt to get all three singers more attention for their new songs. But I am surprised, and I’m sure Olivia is too, about just how big the drama got,” said Penny Murphy(‘21). 

While fans are divided on the emotional significance of the song, there is no doubt that the song itself is rather catchy. Individuals who normally do not like this genre of music seem to like it.

“I guess I do like the song? I like the way it sounds, particularly her vocals,” said Kate Ashlee Sarcia (‘21). 

 Ignoring the emotional connections and meanings behind the song, amassing so many views in such a short amount of time is rather impressive. It speaks for how popular the song really is.
