Will Senior Ball be replaced in 2021?
January 28, 2021
Amador Valley students are currently questioning whether there will be anything to replace Senior Ball, a long-beloved tradition where seniors can go to a dance hosted in their honor. Due to COVID, the majority of traditional school events have been canceled, but many are still hoping to experience something close to the ball.
In order to organize these large events, safety precautions like masking, temperature checks, and more need to be followed. Most Leadership students believe that by the end of the year, things won’t have returned to a safe state of affairs.
“As of right now, we still have our original venue booked for ball in May. However, we see this as very unlikely, so myself and the other class officers have been looking into large, out-door venues as a more likely possibility, if restrictions are looser later. With this, we know we’re more likely to be wearing masks and we talked about the possibility of getting everyone tested before Ball as well as temperature checks upon entrance,” said Senior Class President Kendall Witters (‘21).
Even though students will not be able to have the full experience of a senior ball, there are no plans to abandon it completely. Leadership recognizes that seniors have been through enough and are hopeful that they will have at least one thing to look back on.
“Having an all-outdoor (and COVID-19) safe ball would certainly be like none before, but we just want to make something special for our class, as they’ve missed out on so much already. Like I said, as of right now it seems that we will not be putting on a ball, this is just in the case that we are given the limited opportunity to do so,” said Witters (‘21).
Likewise, many seniors have already purchased clothing in anticipation for an event, but what will happen remains unknown. Future classes beyond the class of 2021’s Senior Ball may have modified versions of the event as well.
“If we are able to pull this off, I think this would really make seniors’ year! A lot of people already bought suits and dresses since prom was cancelled just two weeks prior to when it was supposed to take place, so we think everyone would love to have a chance to dress up. We definitely won’t have the same experience as seniors in the past (and future in that matter) as there will be many safety precautions put into place if we are even able to organize a ball,” said Witters (‘21).
