As of this semester, Amador Valley’s Associated Student Body (ASB) will not be considering any more new clubs for the remainder of the school year. 

The ASB Executive Council came to this decision after last semester. Many clubs that applied overlapped with each other. 

“The ASB board discussed that it was best for these clubs to combine their purposes and focus on expanding their network that was already established. Examples include joining clubs that are already established that students may be interested in and taking advantage of opportunities presented in our club community,” said ASB Vice President/Club Coordinator Luana Yeung (‘21). 

The decision to stop accepting clubs occurs at some point each school year, but there are a variety of factors that influence when this point may be. 

“Every year, there is a new ASB board. The cutoff is decided based on what’s best suited for the club community each year — factors include the types of clubs that are already established, as well as the number of clubs we already have here at Amador that stay renewed and are active every school year,” said Yeung (‘21). 

New club applications will not be accepted until the start of next semester, but the exact date is not exactly set in stone. 

“Depending on who the next ASB Vice President is, they will make a new starting date as well as a cutoff date,” said Yeung. 

The application process to start a club is very similar each year. The application process consists of an application form, club president and staff advisor contracts, club statement about the club’s organizational purpose, petition of at least 15 students to join the club, and a club constitution. After Leadership’s Club Committee reviews the application, a Legislative Council meeting is scheduled for the proposed officers to present their club idea. The Legislative Council discusses each club and votes to accept. 

“The information for the general new club application is always available on our website at clubs.amadorweb.org,” Yeung added.

In total, there are over 100 clubs at Amador that can be found on tinyurl.com/avclubs2020. Yeung claims there is still room for more, just at a later point. 

“The Leadership Class always encourages and appreciates our student body’s initiative to start their own club, and we look forward to highlighting the diversity of Amador starting with our club community every year! We hope to see students continue applying as new clubs next school year!” says Yeung (‘21).
